Kevin Murphy is an Australian-born hair expert and session stylist who has been in the beauty industry for over three decades. In 2003, he launched his very own line of paraben, sulfate, and cruelty-free haircare dubbed KEVIN.MURPHY. He’s quoted explaining the drive behind his passion; “I wanted to develop a range of products that was different from anything on the market; they needed to deliver performance, strength, and longevity.” Kevin Murphy’s brand also boasts a vast range of styling products, from shine sprays to volumizing powders. Striving For Sustainability
Kevin Murphy actively participates in green initiatives with the goal of helping to clean our oceans. A part of that goal is the redesign of his packaging, with his proprietary packaging material being called ‘Ocean Waste Plastic’. In making the switch to a more recyclable, less resource-intensive packaging, they project that they will eliminate over 360 tons of plastic waste each year.
He also makes a concerted effort to conserve water, being involved with ECOHEADS; an organization that provides salons innovative showerheads which save nearly 100 gallons of water in a single basin every year, and also helps to save salons money on water and energy bills.
In addition to their first run of OWP packaging, ‘TOUCHABLE’, a finishing spray wax, was also designed with his sustainability philosophy in mind. Since it comes in a can and is aerosolized, the company will keep track of each unit sold and, in turn, make a monetary donation toward offsetting carbon emissions globally.
Kevin Murphy is going beyond just their packaging; they put sustainability at the forefront of their business model and frequently give back. Other notable efforts include:
